Where to go for Help

“Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?”

And I said, “Here am I. Send me!”

— Isaiah 6:8b

Feeling a bit nuts due to Covid 19? Even wishing you could just anonymously slip into a church one Sunday and listen to someone or have someone listen to you? People from all walks of life in America used to have that available any Sunday of the year, but not now. So, I thought I would say something since I had one of those days several years ago (before coronavirus) but I’ve been housebound a lot longer so I couldn’t just “walk in” to any ol’ church for help.

First, I’d like to say “feel free” to CALL a local church first. Some, while closed, are still answering their phones and doing their best to serve their community. But after that there are still more options.

Wanting to hear a helpful message — especially a hopeful one — is a good urge. Maybe everything you’ve been turning to just seems empty. Wanting to be heard is a normal human need, but harder to fill these days as everyone is “gone”. There is one you can talk to 24/7/365 and one who can talk to you 24/7/365. This is where I went some 5-6 years ago. You’ve probably heard of praying, but doubt you know how to do it. Don’t let that worry you. Speak naturally as you would to any human, only address it to God. And if you need a message that you’re hoping might help, dust off the family Bible and open it to read it. If you don’t have a Bible, no problem. There are a bunch of free Bible apps right on your phone. Download one and begin reading that. Just search “Bible”.

You may not have heard this before (or you may have) but the Bible is God’s letter to us as human beings, who are pained, lonely, feeling lost, and desperate. If you have all the answers and don’t need any help, this isn’t for you. But if you’re feeling a bit (or a lot) desperate around the edges, this can be a real life saver.

It was for me.
