Idea: A column called "In the Other One’s Eyes" or "How We Look to Another" only more succinctly.

Yeah. Heh. We’ve worried about our "borders" a lot here in the U.S. of Avarice. Most of us know that the "line/s" on the map are called "borders" and that’s what separates this place from that place. But there is no line drawn, in real life, on the ground where the map indicates, or anywhere else, for that matter. It is an agreed upon imaginary line between 2 states, 2 countries, 2 counties, 2 parishes, even 2 cities. Or more.

Because if they grow enough, 2 pieces of owned property can touch. And depending upon their neighborliness, it can be a workable agreement or an all out … well, let’s jump all the way to the furthest outcome: war. And we’re no strangers to war. The beginning of one recently touched our own land for the first time since our civil war in the 1861-1865. But the recent attack was done by strangers to us, what we call "aliens".

We usually have an inch by inch (or acre by acre, carefully described) description of where that line is, unless of course, it was the Original Time, the First Time we bumped into a stranger. Then, instead of it being a meeting experienced as an honor to accept graciously and a time to observe and learn and discover, we are pleased about something entirely different: the gathering of "intelligence" as in

in·tel·li·gence (n-tl-jns) n. 4.  a. Secret information, especially about an actual or potential enemy.

b. An agency, staff, or office employed in gathering such information.

c. Espionage agents, organizations, and activities considered as a group: "Intelligence is nothing if not an institutionalized black market in perishable commodities" John le Carré.

Military intelligence proves "intent to harm".  Do we, as a People, wish to be represented (to stand for, symbolize, depict, describe) as savage to all with no indication of desire for making meaningful bonds? Right now our "meaningful bonds" often go no further than a temporary bond in exchange for money/goods/intelligence/bribes, etc., then descriptively and tersely described in exhausting detail regarding how we won’t be held responsible for any "harm" that we may cause: intentional or not. Perhaps the easiest way to digest this information is to merely accept that we are, still, barbarians. Advanced ones, to be certain. Also, with many in our midst who long for a better way, a move forward, an evolution into something better.

I suggest, humbly, that we should, perhaps, consider trusting our own eyes. There ARE no borders.

John Lennon (author and songwriter/performer of the following) had an unshakeable faith that we WERE moving toward something better.

Imagine there’s no heaven
It’s easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today…
Imagine there’s no countries
It isn’t hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace…
You may say I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll join us
And the world will be as one
Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world…
You may say I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll join us
And the world will live as one
